Meet the WU! Crew
Hannah Trezise
Grant Writer
she/her/hers
Where do you work?
I am a Grants Professional in the Chicago area specializing in writing grant proposals and reports. I work for Erie Family Health Centers, a Federally Qualified Health Center serving Chicago and the surrounding suburbs, as their Grants and Stewardship Coordinator
How long have you been involved with Women Unite!?
I have been involved with Women Unite! in the past for a stretch of two years, and I am excited to be coming back again, having rejoined the team as a Grants Contractor this spring. I was initially drawn to WU! for the opportunity to support the fundraising efforts of nonprofit organizations making a difference in the Chicago community.
What do you like most about WU!?
I really enjoy contributing to the missions and visions of the organizations Women Unite! supports. In particular, organizations which employ a hyperlocal approach to social change, such as The Resurrection Project in Pilsen, are really wonderful to be able to work with.
What’s an issue you care deeply about? Why?
Health inequity is one issue of many that I care deeply about, and I believe every person has the right to healthcare. Through my work at the above-mentioned Erie Family Health Centers, I’m able to support the effort to provide quality and affordable healthcare to Chicago-area residents, but I’ve cared about this issue since my time in when I conducted research on environmental policy and factors which contribute to health inequities.
What’s a hobby you have?
One of my hobbies is reading. I almost always have a book or my kindle on me when I’m out and about.
What gives you hope?
My community of friends, family, and neighbors, and the way we lean on each other and support one another in the highs and lows of our individual lives.
What are 2–3 ways you’ve been getting through the fall of late-stage capitalism?
I have been reading books about detangling ourselves from consumerism, such as The Day The World Stopped Shopping by J. B. MacKinnon, and I am learning to sew and mend my own clothing so I can reduce unnecessary purchases when tailoring or mending what I have is an option.
What’s a fun or random fact you’d like to share?
I love music, and play a few instruments, including the French horn.
What’s one of your favorite local businesses?
I love Hoosier Mama Pie Company on Chicago Ave in West Town!
