she/her/hers
Where do you work?
I’m a writer, working primarily in grants and development for nonprofits.
How long have you been involved with Women Unite!?
I’ve been a part of WU!’s awesome work as a Grants and Development Contractor since this past summer.
What do you like most about WU!?
I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the support system for organizations doing such important work where it’s needed most. It’s deeply gratifying to be on a team, behind the scenes, supporting passionate organizations that make incredible moves for underrepresented communities.
What’s an issue you care deeply about? Why?
It’s tough to choose just one, but I am passionate about equity and representation in mental healthcare and where that intersects with a lack of safe, consistent, stable housing. It’s an issue that gets me curious, listening, and ready to serve.
What’s a hobby you have?
When I’m not writing fiction, I love to read and spend time outdoors.
What gives you hope?
The incredible, inspiring organizations and people I work with.
What are 2–3 ways you’ve been getting through this pandemic?
I take advantage of my local library’s e-book selection, so I did a lot of reading. I also listened to more podcasts than I will ever admit—I love Best Friends with comedian/actors Nicole Byer and Sasheer Zamata, Spooked where people tell ghost stories, and Writer’s Bone, which interviews authors on writing. I’ve loved spending extra time with my spouse and our two large dogs, Quentin and Gage, and our cat, Owl.
Fun/random fact you want to share?
I once had a spooky short story called Bottom Feeders adapted for a scripted podcast. You can listen to it here!
What’s one of your favorite local businesses?
I make it a priority to eat at Matt’s El Rancho in Austin, Texas when I’m in town. They’ve been family owned and operated for 70 years! Matt’s has the best Tex-Mex, margaritas, and patio in town. For many years they’ve been a frequent haunt for myself and my family.
