How Women Unite! Got Connected
Alliance of Filipinos for Immigrant Rights and Empowerment (AFIRE) applied to be a partner for our 2023–24 cohort. During the review process, Women Unite! board members resonated with their intergenerational social justice work that utilized an intersectional lens. Their mission and values made partnership seem like a clear, exciting option. After an initial on-boarding and introduction process, WU! and AFIRE began working together in the spring of 2023.
About About AFIRE Chicago
AFIRE is a community organization that creates a political home with and for Filipinx/a/os to confidently organize toward the liberation of immigrants, workers, domestic workers, queer and trans people, and oppressed peoples everywhere.
About the Design
WU! Director of Design, Cassie Tompkins, collaborated with AFIRE’s Development & Strategic Communications Director, Marilou Mariko Carrera, to create a positive and user-friendly experience, incorporating AFIRE’s refreshed brand.
The new site favors intuitive navigation and space for community engagement all while highlighting AFIRE’s multi-generational values. The straightforward layout guides users through content featuring communities of focus and a streamlined management system allows their team to easily update the site. The result is a digital home that reflects AFIRE’s mission as a resource for organizing efforts and mobilization.
We also updated their logo, created brand guidelines, and a brochure, leaving the organization with a comprehensive set of visually appealing and functional marketing materials.
“AFIRE has enjoyed a generous working relationship with Women Unite!. We have received a lot of support and care from WU!’s team of Grants and Development & Communications specialists and resource staff. With their tailored assistance, we have been able to update our informational resources, such as our brochure and website. Through their guidance, we have learned many things about developing online campaigns, crafting engaging newsletters, and using tools to support our Development program. We have enjoyed working with the team at Women Unite! and look forward to what is in store ahead!”
