The Women Making History in Chicago
Early last month, we posted a piece about the disparities in giving and fund distribution between Black- and white-led organizations. We rounded out Black History Month with a panel that further discussed this disparity while also highlighting the transformative work Black-led organizations do despite these inequities. The panel discussion touched on the nonprofit industrial complex, the ways in which our current nonprofit and donation system limit community work and relationship building, the joy and positive change Black-led organizations are driving, and ways we can continue to put the people back in philanthropy.
The panel was hosted by writer, editor, blogger, and forever friend of Women Unite!, L’Oreal Thompson Payton, and it featured an incredible slate of Black women who are making history in Chicago. Be sure to check out their organizations, sign up for their newsletters, follow them on social, and contribute to their work!
